| When a book a popular as Harry Potter
is made into a feature film it is always difficult for the film
maker to capture the magic of the book. If this preview is anything
to go by, the forthcoming film will be amazing, certainly worth
the wait until November 16th. The new
website is beautifully put together, a masterful mix of visuals
and information on the film. Highly Recommended!

past year

The Children of Artemis have
launched a new Newspaper the
"Witchcraft Times" exclusively
for our full members.
A
New Gatherings page has been
added to the site to advertise local social gatherings around
the UK, and possibly elsewhere.
A
New book by Doreen Valiente
"The
Charge of the Goddess" by Doreen Valiente has now been
released. The book includes poetry, much previously unpublished,
and a wealth of information about Doreen's life, It
is priced at £13.99 including postage.
UK
Census
For the first time the UK Census form includes
a question about religion. There has been much confusion about
what you can, or indeed should put on your form, in the "Other
religions " box.
We have contacted the Government
census helpline and through them the Statistics office and
confirmed that Wicca is on their list of religions
they are expecting to count. This information will be used
by both local and central government to provide facilities
for minority groups, such as us. So it is a unique opportunity
for us to obtain more recoginition. Please don't miss this
rare chance, as there will not be another census for ten years.
The first official
Children of Artemis event featuring Maxine Sanders was held
on the 11th November 2000 in Croydon.
The event was a huge success with the tickets heavily over
subscribed. We would like to express our thanks to Maxine
for agreeing to talk for us and delivering a amazing performance
on the day.
A new web site,
doreenvaliente.com , was to be launched
on midnight 1st Sep 2000
to mark the first anniversary of her passing.
Doreen left behind the largest single private collection of
witchcraft memorabilia in the world including some very important
writings, manuscripts, letters from various occultists, 4000
rare books and a photo of Gerald Gardner's original and oldest
version of the Book of Shadows. doreenvaliente.com will contain
for example: photos of her altar, the sword of John Score, the
scourge of Dorothy Clutterbuck of the famous New Forest coven
and the birth certificate of Dafo who initiated Gardner. It

will feature video tributes from friends and former coven members
of Doreen.

and the Goblet of Fire
The title of the new Harry Potter book written by J.K
Rowling, which is due to be released on the 8th of July was
revealed today (29th June) by the Scottish newspaper the Daily
Record. A copy of the book was mysteriously handed at one
of their offices in Edinburgh, despite a massive security
operation to keep the book and it's contents secret. There
are even plans to transport the book to shops in armoured
vans for it's launch . The leaked copy of the book has
been returned to the authors agent, who praised the papers
decision not to reveal anything about the new story. The book
is 636 pages long, more than twice the length of any previous
Harry Potter novel.

The 28th May, is the anniversary
of the first recorded American execution of a ``witch'', this
took place in Massachusetts in 1647.

The
new Harry Potter book was released on the 8th of July. Shops across
the world were besieged by eager readers trying to get a copy.
The book became an overnight best seller. The have been one million
copies of the first edition produced to cope with the massive
demand have been sold and new editions have been printed. It is
the fastest seller in British history, eclipsing the former best
seller by Delia Smith. It is good to see that the best selling
series of books in the western world is such a positive tale about
witches and wizards. The success of Harry Potter has transformed
J.K.Rowling into the highest earning woman.
