| A Christian group organised
a petition to stop Witchfest Scotland. We had no choice but to
organise a counter petition, and mobilise support against a serious
threat to our community. We are please to announce that less than
36 hours after organising this campaign, Glasgow council have
agreed the witchfest Scotland venue booking.
We would like to thank all the
individuals who supported our cause, our valiant Witchfest Scotland
organisers, everyone who voted in the petition, or/and emailed
the council. , Councillor Malcolm Cunning (who supported religious
freedom for all, maybe remember this at election time),
the Nil by Mouth anti religious bigotry charity, Scotwitch, Avalonia,
WWL, UKPagan, WyrdShop and too many more organisations to mention.
You can still indicate your support
of Witchfest events and your opposition to anti Witch & Wiccan
sentiment by signing
our petition here. You never know when we will need such a
document again! |

New
UK regulations
may give Wiccans employment rights
|
The Employment Equality (Religion
or Belief) Regulations 2003 came into force on the 2nd December
2003. This could be the most significant legislation affecting
Wiccans and Witches since the repeal of the Witchcraft Act.
The legislation has a very broad definition of what consitutes
a "religion". The guidelines for employees and employers
published by ACAS (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration
Service) explicitly include the word Wicca as one of the religions
that are potentially covered by this new law.
Merlyn talked directly to the
author of the ACAS document to determine whether our beliefs
are covered by this new act. Her view is that Wicca is probably
included, a view she claimed the lawyers who drafted the act
shared. She made it very clear that Wicca's inclusion will
only be certain once a test case has been held. If such a
case successfully claimed discrimanation on the grounds of
the employee being a Wiccan then it will go into case law
and our position will be clear. Therefore we are interested
in hearing from anyone who loses their job directly as a result
of being Wiccan.

New Book
For Teen Witches
Spellbound
by UK author Teresa Moorey
|
|
A
fun yet grounded guide to the Craft. It explains how to open the
magical senses, the practical basics of witchcraft and spell-working,
cool ways to celebrate the eight seasonal festivals and magickal
secrets and mystical symbols. As well as the power and responsibility
of Wicca, the text also includes a note for parents to allay parental
concerns about this ancient path.
